Whether we know it or not, our personal wellness influences what and how we create and build the world we live in. The things we do and make either support and enhance, or deplete and breakdown our world’s complex ecology of life. And foods, or more specifically superfood, is a direct line to healthy thinking, which is where our creations start in the first place. In other words, superfood your thoughts. From this context, what we ingest into our bodies directly impacts both our personal well being and the planetary ecology. Thus, we can help with needed healing on this planet starting by eating nutritious superfoods, because a healthier body equals a healthier mind. Like the little girl in the picture above, I like to make a point of hugging our world each and every day. Why? The earth’s soils have been badly depleted due to incorrect farming. The planet’s ecosystems suffer from this, which in turn effects our foods, which then effects us. The amount of vitamins, minerals, and nutrients within most of the foods we eat have been greatly reduced. Because of this, our bodies are not getting the levels of nourishment needed to be and stay healthy.

Restoring Body, Mind, & Planet with SuperFoods

Our individuality is made up of a physical body, mind(fullness) and thoughts, emotions and attitude, and spiritual connection with something greater. The interactions between sustainability, leadership, collaboration, design, and innovation (my favorite subjects) start inside ourselves by reflecting upon what is outside ourselves. Thus, there is a tight interconnection between inner and outer. That is, how we treat the inward, effects the outward, and visa versa. Each are tightly connected to other bodies, thoughts, emotions, and spirits that make up a collective intelligence – a group mind of creativity. The outcomes of this creativity starts with you and me feeling whole as individuals. Healthy individuals who are connected to the ecology of the greater system in which we live can then create innovations and solutions to problems that are (w)holistic, more effective, and truly sustainable.

To be global agents of change, we must recognize that all four areas (spirit, mind, emotions, body) of inner being affect the same four aspects of outer being, and permeate throughout our communities and the earth as a whole. This is why some people call the earth ‘Gaia’, because it better represents our planet as a living being made up of an intertwined ecology of living things. This way of thinking is in fact at the source of all human development within the context of understanding and experiencing an ecological consciousness.

My hope is that we will all come to recognize that giving more credence to our individual wellness, directly influences the next generation and the innovations that sustain us. Creating sustainable innovation will be the result of a more conscious, collaborative, co-lead, global design process.

AND it is also dependent upon the ability for those nutrients to be assimilated into our bodies. Become aware of, not only what you intake, but also how well your body takes them in. This goes as much for healthy foods as it does for bad foods. We must eat foods that our body can take in and process. Otherwise those ingredients either get washed through our system without benefit, or they get stored within our tissues because our bodies don’t know how to get rid of them.

My superfoods selections suggest ways to use liquid multivitamins, liquid vitamins, minerals, nutraceuticals, supporting bio-elements, and whole food supplements, to keep our bodies well and hopefully provide foods that the body’s knowledge can both assimilate the good stuff and excrete the bad or what’s not needed.

Building a learning community around wellness – I understand how confusing and overwhelming it is to choose the right products. There is so much mis-information out there. However, realize that ‘good’ information is as much the responsibility of you the user as it is the provider. Because each of us is so uniquely different. What works for one of us may not work for another. All we can do for each other is guide and mentor each other so that we can find what’s right for ourselves through our own experiences. Yet, at the same time, we as individuals need to be supported by a community that cares.

With that in mind, I have created a list of (so called) good products that I’ve seen work for others and myself. It’s a good place to start, as my choices are based on what I use or what I know to be true regarding healthy supplements and super foods. As time goes on, my goal is that you and I will find better solutions together as a community. I will update the list as individual insights are shared so that we learn together.

MY SUPERFOODS PRINCIPLES
My choices of superfoods, liquid vitamins, minerals, nutraceuticals, and whole foods are based on a 6-point body-wellness perspective:

(I) Your colon is the body’s primary storehouse for good or bad health.

Our world is polluted and too often our digestive system becomes an ‘inner’ toxic environment. 90% of all human disease starts in the colon. So a clean colon will prevent most of the stuff that is killing or making too many of us sick. Be sure to use lots of fibrous foods to help rub the inner lining of your bowels to take away the pasty materials that come from eating too much processed foods. Try using raw whole flax seed as an added scrubber, plus its loaded with omegas and protein – very healthy. Grind it to a medium consistency (i.e. not too powdery) using a coffee/herb/seed grinder. Also, use this colon cleansing formula #1 (there’s also a #2 formula), which has natural organic ingredients in it. It works very well to help get things moving better along your whole digestive track. The main point here is, in order to maximize your health – start FIRST by keeping your digestive system clean.

(II) Eat organically grown, raw foods, of every color

Our food is filled with poisons that trick the body into malfunction. Thus,it is crucial that your money be spent on organic foods as much as possible. Also, it has been scientifically proven that even our raw out-of-the-ground foods (i.e. fruits and vegetables) have only a fraction of the vitamins and minerals that they once had. This is due to our growing poor soil conditions – low nutrient soil generates low nutrient food. Bringing a combination of raw fruits, nuts, and vegetables into your diet is essential, because science research has shown that processed foods (i.e. pretty much anything packaged) have had part or most of their nutrients heated and stripped out of them. I’m not saying stop eating processed foods. Rather, just add more raw fruits, nuts, and vegetables into your diet. Adding is so much easier than trying to eliminate something. And make your selections colorful, as different colors reflect the different nutrients. But especially do dark greens. Organic foods are grown in healthier soils than traditionally grown foods, which is helping to restore the lost nutrients. This loss of nutrients issue is why I encourage all of us to add a superfood program into our diets. Put clean, nutrient-rich food into your body. The best way for me has been to stick high-nutrient vegetables, along with a good superfood powder into my juices, mixed with something like an Odwalla green drink, and raw fruits for sweetening and taste.

(III) Alkalize your body for peace, because an acid world is an angry world.

However, almost all of us have bodies that have an acidic pH. pH is a good indicator of human wellness, balance, and health. With a history of plagues and disease coming from contaminated foods, we all have a fear of anything that isn’t processed in some way. However, we have now gone the other extreme. What seems to happen is, during food processing, a majority of a food’s nutrients are stripped out from the heating and pulverizing of the food including vitamins, enzymes, and even healthy bacteria. Thus, supplements have become a multi-billion dollar business. During the breakdown of the foods being processed, their pH values shift from slightly alkaline to, in many cases, quite strongly acidic. Unfortunately, this is where invasive elements can more easily attack our bodies and break it down. An interesting fact to point out: Did you know that cancer can not live well in an alkaline body, but does very well in an acid one? This in itself is enough to shift your body’s pH, don’t you think? Our body organs regenerate and rejuvenate when alkaline and get sick when acid. For example, cancer can not live in an alkaline body but thrives in an acid one. Also, a balanced set of healthy bacteria help to keep bad micro-organisms from passing further into your body, including one that seems to be prevalent in today’s highly food processed world known as candida. Alkalize your body and watch many ailments fade away because, in that state, the body knows how to heal itself better. (IV) Assimilation of nutrients reflects how well we take in the good while shielding ourselves from the bad.

This means that the stated percentages of vitamins and minerals on the backs of most labels never get into your body. The two main reasons that I have found for this to be true is: over-sized molecular structures in lab-made supplements, and limited supporting nutrients around the vitamins that allow it to enter the body effectively. This is why the best nutrients are within their natural food state. Thus superfoods have become a growing interest because, at least in principle, they are foods that are kept as close as possible to their natural states (i.e. minimal processing) and thereby still contain all the ingredients that allow for the essential vitamins and minerals to breakdown correctly and be properly absorbed by the body.

I have found that, just because you take supplements does not mean that your body is taking in the ingredients. The body’s ability to break down and utilize supplements is as important as the supplement ingredients themselves. Laboratory-made ingredients usually are far less capable of assimilating properly than supplements made from natural sources because their molecular structure is often too large to pass through cell membranes and often do not have the carriers that help with the exchange processes in the body. So be sure that you consider this as part of your supplements selection process.

(V) Clean water is holy water, as it’s the carrier of all nutrients throughout the body.

It is very processed to kill off many of the biological contaminants that can hurt us. We now have the risk of drinking too many chemicals that are either placed into the water to sterilize it. Plus, there are actually toxins in the water before processing due to technical contaminants from industry waste that have gotten into the water supply.

One study found pharmaceutical ingredients in the water at the North Pole that come from us excreting drugs we take and excrete through our urine, which then get into the water system when we flush the toilet!

Plus, many toxins and metals have molecules so small that they do not get filtered out by your local water plant. Many of these chemicals are toxins that our bodies don’t handle well and cause sickness over time. The water in most bottled waters are included in this concern as well.

To counter this risk factor, be sure to find and use as pure water as you can find or create it by using high quality water filters in your home. I have found osmosis to be the best but a bit expensive. At least use a charcoal filter system to get started, and then get better ones as you can afford it.

(VI) Change your understanding of ‘diet’ by focusing on adding good foods rather than removing bad ones.

Our notion of ‘dieting’ is actually a misinformed concept. Your diet does not mean that you need to be eating less or reducing anything. Rather, ‘diet’ is what you eat – period. So, by adding rather than eliminating foods, you don’t have to force yourself to fight off those bad habits right off the bat. Instead, by filling yourself with healthy nutrient-rich additions, your body will tend to do two things: (1) Your body will naturally eat less because it is getting the nutrients it needs. So your cravings to eat more will tend to go down. (2) Your mind does not know the difference between ‘do-not-eat-that’ and ‘eat-that’. Instead, the mind builds on what you focus on. By adding things rather than taking away things, your mind will build upon what you are focusing on. So, focus on adding good foods into a bad diet, rather than focusing on getting rid of bad foods to create a good diet. See what I mean?

My SuperFoods & Nutraceuticals Solution

This is not, by any means, a perfect wellness solution – there isn’t one. I’m posting these suggestions because I want to share what I know through my own studies and experiences, hoping that it will encourage more folks to take care of their own health and well being by creating your superfood wellness solution.

1-Cleanse the Digestive System

I like using Dr. Schultz 5 or 30 day bowel detox system, or something similar. Watch his 20 steps wellness video series on how he describes the interaction between a healthy colon and overall wellness – his approach is wise and sound. The videos are on this page along the right hand column. Less a few points I don’t agree with, it’s mostly and very good series. And they’re short, easy, and educational.

2-Alkalize the Body

(a) Alkalize the body with pH drops: Drink lots of water throughout the day with alkalizing, oxygenating Phion pH drops (watch video).

(b) Drink raw lemon juice: Use fresh squeezed lemon juice to help your body shift from an acidic to an alkaline system, with a touch of B grade syrup (nutrient rich) if needed. Lemons are a great alkalizer to the body and makes my stomach feel good. Plus it reduces appetite so its easier to eat less food during day, which is very important. This program is called the Master Cleanse (see book). I’ve gone up to 10 days with just this and no other food, but I suggest five. It was great, but does take will power. If your not feeling well, then work with your diet doc on this one.

3-Add Highly Assimilable Nutrients

(a) Nutraceutical

I consider nutraceuticals to be the baseline for starting a superfoods diet. This is because the majority of vitamins on the market do not get into the body due to the size of dissolved particles, and our diets (even if healthy) no longer have the nutrients they once did due to destroyed soils. The newer liquid supplement vitamin mineral products are called ‘Nutricuticals’ and can help get those needed extras, especially the ingredients that get lost during food processing including amino acids, enzymes, and healthy bacteria. These are the two brands I use intermittently: IntegraMax and Eniva Vibe. Try both and see which one works for you.

(b) Juicing Benefits Combined with Superfoods

Top superfoods are seaweed, raw honey, wheat grass juice, and whole crushed flax seed (see below list). Add Dr. Schultz superfood powder mix to your juice. Get a Vitamix blender, as it’s the best solution to creating instant raw juices that include the fiber. I recommend it over getting a juicer, but if the fiber (very very important!) in the juice is too hard to swallow, either thin it out with with water, or get a good juicer instead.

For other juicing benefits, go and get 2 to 4 ounces of raw wheat grass juice from a local juice bar (or wheat grass powder if you can’t find it raw) a couple times a week irregularly. Wheatgrass juice is one of the highest forms of nature-made nutrition on the planet. Also add sea vegetables to your diet, as it contains the macro and micro minerals and nutrients that our diet does not provide anymore. Use organic raw honey in organic bulk green tea that’s not boiling hot or the good stuff in the honey may be damaged. Put it in your juice, or just eat it by the spoonful. The tea is high in antioxidants and the honey is high in enzymes, which are normally heated out of most all of our foods but essential for nutrient breakdown and assimilation. Plus add raw dark greens (a must!), along with carrots, raspberries and blueberries (or dried blueberries if the fresh ones are out of season) to sweeten as well as get their vitamins and antioxidants. Note that a variety of different colors in your fruits and vegetables means your getting a healthy variety of nutrients. The vegetables and fruits I listed here are extra high antioxidants, vitamins, and minerals. Mix up your own a juice combination to satisfy your taste buds. No matter how you do it, just get this good stuff into your body.

(c) Probiotics and Fish Oil

Probiotics with a high bacteria count and a large variety of bacteria types, help to balance this out. Plus, omegas from toxin-free fish oil help to reestablish cell membranes thereby reducing irritation, starting in your stomach but providing benefit throughout your body. Also, I sugges that you get onto the BlueRock email newsletters as they are very educational in this area.

4-Exercise to burn off stress and improve bodily functions

Most of our stress level are chronically off the charts, and is a main reason for acid reflux and stomach problems, among a myriad of other health issues. We all know this one, but it’s got to be said: Exercise helps! It’s hard to do this one enough (myself included!). But even just walking every couple of days helps a lot. It will help to calm down anxiety and helps all your body systems to run and pump properly – including your blood circulation, nervous network, and lymph system (this last one is too often overlooked, but it’s a big one!). Just do it; even if its only once a week to start.

  30. First, you will discover products at the health food store. I use two teas: (Lengthy Life Herbal Teas), Detox Tea, also Digest Tea. The Detox tea says on the box, very good for liver. One of the products is Lengthy Life Herbal Teas. Which is 1 I personally recommend.
